Just out of curiosity can someone tell me exactly what this does?

http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=173231&store=Main&catId=&productId=p173228&leafCatId=&mmyId=4608

Is it talking about being able to remove the air boxes?

It's a PAIR valve removal kit. Not sure which bike it's for, but looks like the ones used for the LC or possibly the C50.

Here's some good info on PAIR valves

Oh and to answer your question no it would not be used for the removal of your air boxes

It doesn't and neither does the vs1400.....at least the older models. If you go to Baron Custom they also talk about the vs800/1400, but when you look at their instruction sheet in .PDF format you'll see there is no talk of the vs800/1400.

Of course I can't speak about the S50/S83, but I know there isn't one for the vs800/1400

There is no pair valve on the S50 or S83 either. The thing on the side of the engine that looks like the pair valve in a C90, C50, or M50 is an empty plastic box to hold the tool kit in. You can just undo three screws and it comes right off.

If a pug dog stabbed me in the face and stole my car, I'd still be like, "Awe! A pug!"

Well here's the odd thing....I was just working with another members S83 about a month ago and I believe he said it did have some sort of PAIR valve on it cause there was several added items that sat behind the faux tool box.

I do know it has the same carb surge valve system (and related plumbing) that I took off my LC which which was attached to part of the PAIR valve on my LC. But it didn't have the same tubes that go to the sides of the cylinders that the PAIR valve is normally setup with. Guess I'll have to have a look at his manual next time he's over and see if it says what all that extra hardware is used for.......but I do know the carb surge valve was there which had suprised me.

On 49-state models it is just a plasitc box, on California models that may be where they stuffed some of the emissions crap that used to go in the now-optional sissy bar.

Yeah I was kind of thinking that too.....but the carb surge valve is still throwing me off. That might be part of the newer smog crap. I have taken the smog crap off of older vs800's and 1400's which didn't have any of this, but things do change over time.....so this might be part of that stuff.

I was just curious i have a 2001 VS800. Can i remove the elbows and the big plastic air cleaner boxes if my carbs have been jetted? I would like to mount the battery box that hangs below the bike in place of that. Any suggestions?
