After a blowout this week-end I used the opportunity to go to the Darkside set-up. Bought a 195/65-15 Bridgestone Potenza G009 directional performance tire.
http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tireselector/SearchBySize_BS_EN.aspx?Size=195/65R15
I only rode it about 20 miles after picking the bike up but so far I'm impressed
I believe idle speed stability is improved as well as slow speed turning improved. I had the installer put 32#'s of air in it for starters, any in-put on this would be appreciated.
I'm going to run it for a week to see if it has any quirks that concern me. If none then I'm going to buy another tire and have it whitewalled. If I do that I'll have this rim and tire for sale or E-Bay as I have a stock tire and rim assembly coming fom e-bay.
I need to say after reading all the stuff about tires in this forum for two years, I have absolutely no complaints on the Bridgestones that came on this bike. I have 9500 miles on the originals and the front looks new and the rear was showing minimal wear. The blow-out I had was a road hazard deal that put a clean hole in the tire it was not a defect.

Play in the area of 36-40 psi...........................I settled on 38 for general over all happiness.
It will also depend on your set up..........things like rear shock preload and type of springs and preload in the front.

What made you decide to go so high on pressure?
32# actually felt pretty stiff to me, but then I also have no clue

For the same reason I run the front at the same range..........better handling and tire life.

I was running 38/38 also, I thought lower pressure on the big radial may give me more footprint and side wall deflection in turns

Like I said, you'll need to plat around with it until you're happy. I don't know where your preload is on your shocks or how you ride so you may be just right for your set up at 32.

35 in the front(404) and 37 in the back(Falken) works best for me.
11,000 miles and its showing very little wear.

None. If youre going to stick with MC tires, try Avons, Metzlers, just about anything OTHER than Brick-stones. If youre considering going to the DS, brand isnt key, so much as finding the right size to fit. Its tought to find an automotive tire similar to the 14/90-15 that comes on the 800.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks the Bridgestones are ok. Where did you have the DS mounted? Did the fender have to come off? I'm thinking that when the time comes I will go DS also, but I KNOW I can't take it to my dealer to install it. They get the shakes when I use Rotella in the C90. They think ONLY OEM will do or we'll all go to hell in a Vespa.

Not sure what you are asking, staying with MC or thinking about DS?
Regardless: this link will help you on size, skip the box at the top and go down further and you can eter your MC size and compare it to automotive. The box up top is auto only.

For what it's worth, I had BS's on two bikes and would not hesitate to buy them, if I needed a front right now I would replace it with the OEM BS's.
I added this later, I only looked for directional tires, they look cooler and it puts both outside tread areas going the same direction. not important on a car but I believe a good thing on a bike. Edited by B rock on Oct 3, 2007 at 12:02 PM

I found a small shop just outside of town that had no problem, had done many in the past.
I let them do the whole thing, nothing involved other than normal. The 195/65-15 really isn't that much different in size other than the tread is flat other than radiused.

I installed my DS myself and didn't have to remove the fender. I have a MC jack and I was able to jack the bike up enough to get the tire/wheel in the wheel well with the fender in place. It is important to have the bike supported real well on the jack and having at least one person to help. You DON'T want an LC1500 on top of you....
